Sue Woodward

Sue has over 24 years experience in nonprofit fundraising. She was named by "FundRaising Success" magazine as one of the "Top Women in Fundraising for 2006 " and formed her own consultancy in late 2005.

Her experience includes serving as Senior Vice President of Virilion, an interactive marketing agency and Director of Direct Response Fundraising at American Red Cross NHQ where she built and led a strong team that, in 2005 alone, raised just over $775 million.

Prior to her employment at ARC, Sue worked for Lewis Direct, a newly formed nonprofit direct marketing arm of the Lewis Advertising Agency. Lewis Direct served 16 diverse national nonprofit clients with interactive direct response programs. While at Lewis Direct, she was senior creative strategist for Epilepsy Foundation, ANERA, ZPG and American Printing House for the Blind. Additionally, while at Lewis she provided strategic fundraising direction, tactics, creative copywriting and editing for a number of clients.

Her experience also includes four years as Director of Membership and Development for a national environmental organization (Zero Population Growth) and 12 years as a professional for the Boy Scouts of America, both in the USA and the United Kingdom.

Sue’s expertise is in developing fully integrated fundraising programs for organizations, with particular emphasis on the direct response components. She is a guest lecturer for the graduate Direct Marketing program at George Washington and Johns Hopkins Universities, and a speaker at numerous conferences in the USA and overseas. She is a member of the DMA, DMANF, DMAW, NTEN and AFP.  She is a former board member of the AFP/DC Chapter, and the AFP International Foundation President’s Committee, and is a Certified Fundraising Executive

Dereck Woodward

Dereck is a twenty-two year veteran of the Royal Air Force in his native England.  Before helping form Woodward Associates in 2005, Dereck worked in business administration and purchasing, and has been a magazine columnist and freelance magazine writer since 1985.

Working as Woodward Associate’s copywriter and editor on appeals, renewals, and acquisitions for clients, he creates and edits copy for all direct response vehicles, including mail, online and outbound telemarketing. One recent online-copy for a client raised just over $250,000 in a 24 hour period!

When not working on Woodward Associates projects, Dereck enjoys cycling, photography, designing and building remote controlled model aircraft and is working on his first full-length book.
